WWE: 10 Best Pre-Match Promos Ever

2. Team WWF Vs Team Alliance At Invasion 2001

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aip8YIb-fjk Before we start, I know that a lot of people have issues with the Invasion storyline. Yes, it would have been nice for Team WCW to include the likes of Goldberg, Sting and Ric Flair. It would have been nice had WCW and ECW's stars been portrayed as they were in their home promotions rather than just being heel by default. It would have been nice if WCW and ECW were represented by Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman respectively, rather than Shane and Stephanie. But what did we honestly expect? Vince wrote the storyline, he wasn't going to have what had previously been his competition overshadow his own stars. So if we put all the "What if?" out of our heads, and focus instead on what we got, this is actually an amazing promo video. From the very start, we see how difficult it is for the then-WWF. Backed into a corner by invading forces, Vince looks more and more nervous as ECW arrives on the scene to join forces with the opposition, and positively distraught when it transpires that both his children are leading the charge against him. The music then changes, becoming more bombastic and inspiring with Vince appealing to Austin, who had once been his worst enemy, to return to his hellraising ways in order to combat this threat to the company. We see "the old Stone Cold" in his finest moments as fans cheer in the background. Upon Stone Cold's refusal, the video takes a more sombre tone. Austin drinks and wallows in depression while The Alliance and the WWF begin to rally their troops. After inspiring speeches from members of the locker room, and a call to arms by Freddie Blassie, we see Austin snap and return to the fight, turning the tide in the favour of WWF. The music reaches it crescendo as we see the two opposing forces clash repeatedly, and ends with The Alliance threat all lined up, with Paul Heyman's cry of "Death to the WWF!" echoing in the air. The storyline would deteriorate after this very match, and it would never be as clearly defined as WWF Vs The Other Two Promotions again, as stars would jump ship to the opposition and in-fighting would break out amongst the ranks. But for this alone, all previous animosity among WWF stars was ignored in the name of the biggest good guy vs bad guy of all time. And nearly thirteen years later, this still gets the adrenalin pumping.
