5. Eddie Kingston/Jon Moxley Face Off
Whenever they appear on Dynamite together, Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston come across like two p*ss funny, real life mates you wish would let you go for a pint with them. So authentic are the brotherly love vibes that radiate through our television screens, you’d be forgiven for forgetting they once tore verbal strips off each other ahead of Full Gear 2020. At least, you would be if their confrontation hadn’t been so flipping memorable.
“The Mad King” is on fine, intense form as the guy who can’t let himself believe his old friend still cares. But it’s Moxley who is on fire here, invoking a promise he made to Eddie’s mother Ruthy. As ever, he’s your favourite cheesy '80s B-movie hero and utterly convincing at the same time.
Mox undercuts Eddie’s words by reframing them as so much bluster. “See I believe that the loudest one in the room is the weakest one in the room, and you’ve been real loud lately, Eddie.”
The exchange did everything needed to get viewers hyped for the pair’s match and cast just enough doubt over the result. Surely Jon would retain? But clearly Eddie had no quit in him and he too had made a promise to his mother. The whole thing was all the more impressive for taking place during the height of the pandemic, with no real fans in attendance.
