10 Best Roman Reigns WWE Matches

Following The Shield's breakup from a few months before this matchup, Roman Reigns was predictably launched to the top of the card. He was still largely unproven as a singles performer, which led into his SummerSlam matchup against Randy Orton. A motivated Viper can have great matches with just about anybody and thankfully, he seemed up to the task.

What stands out the most from this contest was the chemistry these two had in the closing minutes. Orton beautifully countered a spear with a powerslam, then later garnered a massive pop when he stopped a Superman Punch with an RKO. Roman had some good offense as well, like when he forced a leg sweep off of a punt, which transitioned perfectly into the final Spear to put Randy away.

A few months of singles matches like this on big cards could've helped prove Reigns in the eyes of the growing number of detractors. Sadly for him, he would develop a very real incarcerated hernia just before the following pay-per-view. He returned to action again in December, which was plenty of time to be ready to win the Royal Rumble in January.
