The John Cena-Edge feud threatened to engulf Raw in 2006. Edge ended Cena's first WWE World Title reign when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, and though Cena won the belt back, Edge was the champion by summer. He managed to retain the belt in a SummerSlam showdown with John Cena, leading to a final bout - a TLC match - at Unforgiven.

That bout saw Cena take the fight to Edge in his hometown of Toronto, using a ladder to inflict pain on "The Rated-R Superstar". Edge fought back, of course, and very nearly put Cena away by sending him crashing through a table. In the end, though, a top-of-the-ladder Attitude Adjustment through two tables to Edge was enough to claim a third title for Cena.

The show also featured the retirement match of Trish Stratus, who challenged Lita for the WWE Women's Championship. In an emotional moment, Stratus won the belt for a record seventh time, then took her final bow as a full-time performer.
