10 Best Stretcher Matches In WWE History

8. Bob Backlund vs. Billy Graham (September 16, 1978)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmgVyX10hbE As previously mentioned, Bob Backlund and Billy Graham were involved in a ruthless rivalry with each other over the course of 1978. Graham so desperately wanted back his WWF Championship, but Backlund was determined on maintaining possession of it at any cost. They fought in several stipulation matches over the years, but none more innovate and violent as the Sicilian Stretcher match. This kind of match required one wrestler to incapacitate their opponent to the point where they could be wheeled away on a stretcher at ringside. Since Backlund was still proving himself as champion at the time, many fans may have believed that he didn't have what it took to hold that prestigious prize. However, after this brutal battle he proved them all wrong. In a near 20 minute bout, Backlund was willing to do anything to stay champion. This included him hitting Graham with both a stretcher and a steel chair, knocking him out long enough to place him on the stretcher so he could be wheeled away. This granted him the victory, and though a Stretcher rematch was held two months later, this match in particular was a turning point in both the title reign and career of Backlund.
