3. The New Day

The camp delight that is New Day lurched over the line late last year. Their march to Demolition's record reign was only a march in WWE lore. The achievement was rendered hollow, given that it was ostensibly a means of erasing from history Demolition, plaintiffs of the longstanding concussion lawsuit, more than it was a recognition of respect - or, most importantly, an absorbing storyline in its own right.

The stock of Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods was low heading into 2017. Many were growing tired of the shilling. Catchphrases grow old - there's a reason fans were so quick to turn even on The Rock in the Attitude Era - and the act had generally ran its course.

It's a testament to the group's longevity that, months after accusations of staleness, The New Day are stealing shows (Battleground) and, in doing so, attention (briefly) away from the sublime NJPW G1 Climax tournament. Kofi Kingston's Trust Fall is a dumb, dumb move - but it's another facet, of many, to their schtick. A move to SmackDown isn't the sole reason for their upturn in fortunes. The New Day, quietly, is an evolving beast.

That change of scenery doubtlessly helped - but it's also a testimony to the power of positivity that their currency remained as stable as it did on a three-hour RAW programme that has eaten both itself and so much of the roster who perform on it.
