10 Best Times AEW Threw Shade At WWE
7. Kenny Omega Sticks It To The Man And The Boys
Kenny Omega isn't as present on socials, and doesn't require much catharsis, having avoided the main WWE roster entirely by briefly surveying the Deep South sh*t-show and electing to bid adieu to it.
But, in admirable earnest and fabulous jest, he isn't above ripping the piss.
WWE via affiliate EVOLVE sneakily counter-programmed AEW's Fight For The Fallen gun violence charity show. It was, of course, the first EVOLVE event broadcast on the WWE Network. And, since it was the last, and WWE went on to counter-programme Dynamite with NXT, it is disgustingly obvious why they did it. Omega knew, and tweeted to register his disgust with WWE, lashing out at their relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to all but prove that such tactics were consistent with the company's value system.
Then, as part of a gimmick in which a series of losses caused him to unravel, Omega toyed with the discourse surrounding the imminent war to pop Being The Elite fans and work those who didn't think he had it in him to succeed on US TV. He played it smug, aloof and unhinged, and in a just chef's kiss moment of comedy referred to Dominick Dijakovic as "Donovan D*ckhead".
A few months after the transition, Omega took to working weekly TV thrillers that furthered the most compelling storyline in wrestling.
