10 Best Times Wrestlers Faked Life-Changing Injuries

4. The Sandman

Blindness in wrestling doesn't usually lead to excellence.

Blindfold matches, for example, are the sh*ts, and Rey Mysterio "losing an eye" during that 'Eye For An Eye' weirdness last year was a low point for those who want actual payoff from heavily hyped angles. Those folks would be pleased to know that The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer went all out in 1994, and they did it ECW style.

Sandy suffered an intense eye injury when a lit cigarette was shoved into his eye during an already-violent 'I Quit' bout against Dreamer. Later, Sandman said he'd have to retire from the ring, Tommy Cairo mocked him and Dreamer even ditched his partner (Cairo) before dedicating the rest of his wrestling career to The Sandman.

At November To Remember '94, during Sandman's retirement ceremony, he revealed that he wasn't actually blind at all and attacked Dreamer. That resumed their feud, and provided a superb reason for why the latter had turned on old partner Tommy Cairo too.
