In arguably the biggest story to hit pro wrestling in 2006, Kurt Angle arrived in TNA, fresh off a lengthy and highly acclaimed run in WWE.

The Olympic Hro wasted no time in moving head-on into a feud with the undefeated Samoa Joe. It was the type of dream match hardcore wrestling fans never thought would see the light of day. For the then-budding Orlando promotion, this was the closest they could get to running a WWE vs. TNA angle.

True to the unfortunate reputation they continued to garner in the years after, TNA sent their guy out for execution. Samoa Joe's lengthy undefeated streak, one that had allowed him to become one of the promotion's most over stars, was terminated via submission by Angle at Genesis '06.

While there's certainly no shame in losing to one of the toughest, most legit stars to ever do it, the decision proved frustrating for many TNA fans.

Regardless of one's thoughts on the decision to have Angle tap Joe out in their first clash, the feud itself, and the quality of the bouts, was awe-inspiring. A bloody, hard-hitting, hateful war between two tough guys, this sports-focused feud was a breath of fresh air in the gradually Russo-dominated TNA of late '06 through '07.

Revisited in 2008 for Samoa Joe's coronation as the company's top champ, these two kept the magic alive with a shoot-style classic at Lockdown '08. A seminal rivalry from TNA's most successful years.
