10 Best TNA X Division Champions Ever

6. Petey Williams

When I first saw TNA, Petey Williams was the X Division Champion. This was way back in 2004, and whilst Williams only held the title for 158 days, it was one of those reigns that felt somewhat like Mr. Perfect's Intercontinental Championship run way back in 1991. Williams was a cowardly heel of sorts, but he was a cowardly heel who could truly go in the ring and back up his occasional arrogance.

It just didn't seem like his reign would end, but end it did, with AJ Styles coming out on top in an Ultimate X match at the beginning of 2005. Williams would have a number of matches for the title in the months following, but would have to wait until 2008 before winning the strap again, although by this point he had transformed into 'Little Petey Pump', something of a mini Scott Steiner.

Williams was the first man to give the X Division Championship something approaching a true identity in many ways. Having a finishing move as brutal as the Canadian Destroyer certainly helped.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
