In early 2015, there was a changing of the guard in NXT. Neville - who had been the first NXT Champion of the WWE Network era and was one of the brand's most popular stars - was being phased out after losing his championship to Sami Zayn. In his place, Finn Balor was rising to become the new star of NXT.

With Zayn riding high as champion, an eight-man tournament was booked to see who would be declared number one contender (Zayn's best-friend-turned-worst-enemy, Kevin Owens was already getting the first crack at the champ). The finals, sure enough, came down to Balor versus Neville.

Both men proved why, despite the fact that their size may have held them back, they deserved to be front and center in WWE's lineup. Pulling out all of the stops, Balor hit Neville with a running front dropkick against the guardrail. Neville, meanwhile, came back with a Phoenix Splash from the second rope, but couldn't put Balor away. Finally, another front dropkick from Balor led into the Coup de Grace, giving him the win and the future title match.
