10 Best Tournament Finals In WWE History
2. Kurt Angle And Chris Benoit Vs. Edge And Rey Mysterio - WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament
In 2002, WWE's first roster split went into effect, and there was some confusion about what would happen with certain championships. At first, the World Tag Team Champions were on Smackdown and Raw had no tandem titles, but soon, Raw snatched up the champions in a coup. Now, Smackdown was without any tag titles.
General Manager Stephanie McMahon decided to introduce a new set of belts, with eight teams competing in a tournament for them - the only problem was that only two regular teams (Billy and Chuck and Los Guerreros) were on the roster. The rest of the tandems were makeshift teams, with mortal enemies Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle forced to team together.
Angle and Benoit ended up making the finals, where they met the team of Edge and Rey Mysterio. The tandems battled at No Mercy, having an incredible bout that put the brand-new titles on the map. Despite their lack of experience together, both teams worked together wonderfully, but in the end, Angle and Benoit were victorious when Angle forced Edge to tap out to the Ankle Lock.
