10 Best WCW Monday Nitro Matches Ever

2. Bret Hart Vs. Chris Benoit (October 4, 1999)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2dgk6w_bret-hart-vs-chris-benoit-wcw-nitro-4-10-1999_sport This was known as the Owen Hart Tribute Match in Kansas City. Five months earlier in that same building, Owen died during WWE's Over the Edge PPV in a horrific accident, so when Nitro had a show there they set up this match. There was a special feel to match with Bret wanting to pay tribute to his younger brother and Benoit was also close to Owen, having worked together in Japan as well as Stampede when they were trying to make a name of themselves in the business. The legendary Harley Race acted as guest ring announcer. It was all about the in-ring action here with no storyline. Both guys came close to winning several times, but in the end it was a Sharpshooter by Hart that got the job done. It was one of the longest matches in Nitro history at 28 minutes. When it was over, they hugged in the ring, raised each other's arms and showed that WCW wrestlers were capable of great matches if they were given the opportunity to do so. The match isn't celebrated anymore due to the Benoit tragedy, but if you're able to watch his matches then this is one worth well worth checking out.
