10 Best WCW Monday Nitro Matches Ever

4. Cruiserweight Title Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Dean Malenko (July 8, 1996)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x78lru_nitro-96-dean-malenko-vs-rey-myster_shortfilms Rey Mysterio was my favorite WCW wrestler because he could do things that nobody else did. What was incredible about him in 1996 when he first started for them is that he was only 22 years old. How could somebody be that great at such a young age? He was the guy that a lot of fans got excited about the most because of his ability to do the unthinkable and make it look easy. When he wrestled Dean Malenko it was a contrast in styles because Malenko was a cruiserweight that was very technical in the ring and had a mat-based style while Mysterio was a high flyer. They were both so good that they made it work and always made it look easy too. The story of this match was that Malenko was a confident Cruiserweight Champion that thought he could out-wrestle Mysterio at any time. He even went so far as to pull Mysterio up during pinfall attempts because he wanted to punish him more. As is usually the case when somebody does that, it was a big mistake. Mysterio came close to winning several times as he pulled off moves like springboard hurricanranas and twisting planchas. Nobody else was doing that at the time. Eventually Mysterio was able to get the duke by spiking The Man of 1000 Holds with a sweet hurricanrana. It was the first time Mysterio had won the Cruiserweight Title, a title he went on to win seven times in total (counting the title's history in WWE as well).
