Although subject to incredibly mixed reviews, the main event of the inaugural WrestleMania was one of the most important matches in wrestling history. Had it been a disaster (a very real possibility, considering the fact that a show of such scale had never been broadcast to so many before), the consequences would have been incredibly far reaching. Articles such as this, chronicling the 30-year history of 'Mania, would certainly not be written. The success of the initial 'Mania is widely thought to have opened the door for Vince McMahon, partially thanks to the involvement of celebrities such as Cyndi Lauper and - most famously - Mr T. Despite his total inexperience between the ring ropes, Mr T's willingness to involve himself as Hulk Hogan's tag partner helped bring wrestling to great mainstream attention. The pair's feel-good victory over conniving heels Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper proved that the simplest course of action is often the most sensible, as fans responded incredibly well to the show's happy ending.
