10 Best WrestleMania Rematches That Ever Happened At Backlash
3. Batista vs. Triple H (Backlash 2005)
The expertly crafted story which led to the dissolution of Evolution and Batista claiming his first World title from Triple H at WrestleMania 21, was one of WWE's best. The match itself had been disappointing, with the still relatively inexperienced Batista in the process of learning how to take part in a 20-minute-plus main event. However, as with Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit, each match between the Game and the Animal improved on its predecessor.
This was true of their first rematch, at Backlash 2005. Again closing the show, the former allies battled for a shorter time - clocking it as just over 16 minutes - and the loss of five minutes helped the pace of the contest. Triple H was able to take control of the match through the assistance of Ric Flair, who helped to curb Batista's momentum at crucial points, with the future Drax the Destroyer occasionally springing to life and exerting control with his incredible strength.
A huge improvement over their WrestleMania encounter, Batista would score another win over his former mentor to cement him as a top guy. They would even go on to have a better match at the next RAW pay-per-view, tackling one another inside Hell In A Cell at Vengeance 2005.
