10 Best Wrestlers In NJPW (Right Now)
6. Tetsuya Naito
No one had more momentum last year than Tetsuya Naito. Blazing his way through a great G1, he defeated Kenny Omega in what was considered one of the greatest matches of all time. From there, he rode his surging popularity into the Tokyo Dome, and many thought he would finally get a huge babyface victory and win the title. Gedo had other plans though, and Okada retained the championship, much to the chagrin of many (though, seeing how Okada's reign ended, people now understand that what happened at Wrestle Kingdom needed to happen).
Since then, Naito's been in an odd spot. He's still one of the most explosive wrestlers in the company, delivering quality matches, but he's lacked that sort of direction that really adds weight to his contests. However, that hasn't changed the fact that Naito is still the most over member of the roster, and that affects his matches in a big way. Every city is LIJ territory, and Naito is able to take that fan investment and make matches seem huge, even when they don't have the over-the-top spots of an Omega or Ibushi contest.
So while it may seem as though Naito may not have the most momentum right now (although, given the G1 final is in a couple days, this point will probably be moot), he's still showing why the crowd loves him so much.
