1. Broken Matt Hardy

It couldn't have been anyone else. When we look back on 2016 there will be a number of things that happened that we truly didn't see coming. AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura arriving in WWE came out of left field, as did the brand split and various stories that came from it. Heck, no one expected The Rock vs. Erick Rowan to happen at WrestleMania, and even less people expected Zack Ryder to win a singles championship.

Even so, the biggest story of the year may well be the fact that TNA has become must-see all over again, and that is thanks to Matt Hardy. Matt, frequently regarded as the second most interesting Hardy brother, not only resurrected his entire reputation by becoming Broken but he also repaired an entire company in the process.

Broken Matt Hardy is true genius, despite the fact it is utterly preposterous. He speaks in a stupid accent, makes absolutely no sense and is able to withstand mist attacks. The whole thing is ridiculous, but that may well by why it is so glorious. Broken Matt Hardy isn't just the best gimmick change of 2016; it may well be one of the best of all time.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
