One of the most gruelling and exciting concepts WWE’s displayed this century, the Elimination Chamber combines all the best elements of WarGames, Hell In A Cell and Survivor Series elimination matches.

The Elimination Chamber is the large chain-linked structure that’s headlined many pay per views over its near 20 year history. Eric Bischoff introduced the match in storyline in November 2002, with Shawn Michaels going over Triple H, Chris Jericho, Kane, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam to win the World Heavyweight Championship in a 40 minute brutal exhibition.

Triple H’s actually the man behind the match. It was conceived from Triple H continuously pushing for WarGames (a Dusty Rhodes/NWA match) to take place in the WWE only to be rejected over and over again by Chairman of the Board Vince McMahon - who hates WarGames/anything that isn’t a WWE creation. After one too many rejections, Triple H devised the Elimination Chamber.

HHH recently said of that first match held in Madison Square Garden and its creation:

“When we got to the Garden and we stepped in the Chamber, was the first time any of us had ever seen it. It was a concept that I pitched and drew on a napkin, and then somebody else designed it.”

Chamber highlights over the years have included Goldberg spearing the hell out of Chris Jericho through a pod, Edge losing the WWE Championship and winning the World Heavyweight Championship the same night in two separate Elimination Chamber bouts and John Cena bloodily retaining the WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution.
