10 Best Wrestling Match Concepts Since 2000

Edge Christian Jeff Hardy TLC 2 WrestleMania 17
WWE

Another variation of the ladder match, only this one is more arduous and encompasses a superabundance of tables and chairs too. It was devised in 2000 by the WWE when it needed to step up the ongoing feud between tag teams Edge & Christian and The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz who had already fought numerous times in stunt-filled collisions, including a stunning Triangle Ladder match for the WWF Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 2000. In their feud Edge & Christian were attacking the other two teams with steel chairs, The Hardy’s were bombarding them with ladders and The Dudley Boyz were putting them through tables. So later that year at SummerSlam the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match was born.

This match too was so popular and well-regarded that it spawned its own pay per view event that WWE still run annually. It’s produced some spectacular scenes in its time, with Edge spearing Jeff high above the ring off a ladder to a huge pop at WrestleMania X-Seven, John Cena shoving Edge off a 16-foot ladder with an Attitude Adjustment through a stack of tables at Unforgiven (2006) and Edge bloodily beating Ric Flair in one of Ric’s last world title opportunities. There have been 25 TLC matches over the years in WWE, with Edge appearing in 7 of them. It’s safe to say Edge is the TLC MVP.
