I'm still not entirely sure why these two faced off against each other in the opening round of the competition, but I'm quite glad they did. The number one contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships closed out the first of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, and the best was quite clearly saved for last.

Gargano and Ciampa are no strangers to each other, and their chemistry was clear for all to see. A number of the first round matches have been somewhat plagued by timing and pacing problems but there was none of that here; these two worked hard, they worked stiff, and they worked fast.

As such, this match came off not unlike a big-time NJPW tournament match, two men striving to win and beating seven shades out of each other in the process. Gargano picked up the victory and the two men shared a delightful moment in-ring after the match. This likely won't be the last time we see Gargano vs. Ciampa on the WWE Network.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
