10 Best Wrestling Matches Of The Week (July 22)

5. Dean Ambrose Vs. Seth Rollins - WWE SmackDown - 19/7/16

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins did battle over the WWE Championship twice this week, and their second battle edges out the first for me. After the false finish the night before this match seemed to have a good deal more urgency to it, the sort of nerve and tension that championship matches between two still relatively young stars should come with.

Rollins attacked Ambrose before the bell, as the first two draft picks in the 2016 WWE Draft picked up where they had left off well, every time they've done battle. The action spilled outside, but by the time things returned to relative sanity in the ring Rollins had taken control.

This match was a little bit shorter than the RAW one and as such had a way more enjoyable pace. The finish was a nice call-back to Monday night too, as Rollins once again hit Ambrose with a superplex only for the champ to roll it into Dirty Deeds for the 1-2-3.

They've had better matches, but as far as WWE TV main events go this was pretty fantastic.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
