10 Best Wrestling Matches Of The Week (July 22)

3. Rey Mysterio Vs. Prince Puma - Lucha Underground Ultima Lucha Dos - 20/7/16

Seth Rollins Dean Ambrose
El Rey Network

This was the biggest dream match in the Lucha Underground cannon this year, and was rightfully kept until the final match of the entire season. Rey Mysterio hasn't done a huge amount in LU, mostly due to the fact his knees are made of paper at this point, but he rolled back the years here to put on a genuine classic against the heir to his throne, Prince Puma.

The Legend vs. the Heir Apparent was the story, and that story was told well. They both knew each other well, as one would assume, and the emotional aspect of the story was ramped up towards the end. Prince Puma had the match won only to possibly show Rey a little bit too emotion and respect.

Rey subsequently returned to his heyday to pull out a 619 and Rana for the win. It was exactly what you'd expect from a dream match in this setting, and somehow managed to tell a story where the better man lost but deservedly so. That is impressive in itself.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
