2. Kazuchika Okada Vs. Kenny Omega - Wrestle Kingdom 11

As I write this, one week has passed since Wrestle Kingdom 11. While the whole show, top to bottom, was fantastic, it's the Kazuchika Okada versus Kenny Omega main event that's got people talking the most. It seems like this one match was good enough to serve as a turning point for NJPW's global popularity.

Let's go back to the beginning. After Wrestle Kingdom 10, Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles left New Japan, seemingly gutting the company. Kenny Omega, who had previously been Junior Heavyweight Champion, had the difficult task of replacing both men, and he immediately went about it, winning the Intercontinental Title and becoming the first foreigner in history to claim victory in the G1 Climax. That earned him a title shot at Okada at WK 11.

The match was a 47-minute classic that pushed the boundaries of what fans could comprehend. Both men put their bodies on the line and took ridiculous bumps (Omega was backdropped out of the ring through a table, Okada took a Dragon Superplex), but more importantly, the psychology of two men who would do anything to win made the match a masterpiece. Okada ultimately won, but there were truly no losers.
