Close your eyes. If you were told Hogan was about to Hulk up, could you envision the entire thing in your mind? Almost certainly. The stare, the headshake, the rise and convulsing walk, the dramatic point, block the punch, three punches, Irish Whip, big boot, leg drop. It's a tale as old as time, and that's because it works.

Hogan had tons of strengths as a pro wrestler, but his absolute best was the ability to read a crowd. Hogan, an underrated seller himself, knew just how to eke out the maximum amount of sympathy from fans before launching into his comeback. It became so ingrained in his matches that chances are audiences would be cheated if they didn't' get to see their hero take an absolute pasting only to overcome the odds.

Best of all was Hogan's claims of feeding off the fans and the power of Hulkamania. By claiming it was fan support that allowed him to rally, Hogan gave the audience agency in his match. His victory felt like an audience victory, and there's no better feeling in the world than being the force that allows your hero to win the big match.
