10 Best Wrestling PPV Cliffhanger Endings

3. Jon Moxley Blows The Doors Off (AEW Double Or Nothing)

Jon Moxley Cliffhanger
AEW (James Musselwhite)

At AEW Double Or Nothing, Jon Moxley debuted his reinvented old self by ripping the stigma of Dean Ambrose to shreds.

Appearing through the crowd to no entrance music—and not by either kayfabe entrance way—this wonderful production detail added an authenticity to the angle and cast Moxley as a disruptor. He performed as an outlaw, too, by flooring both Chris Jericho and a hapless, innocent referee. This built both his character and the intrigue of the cliffhanger—this version of Moxley, an actual, combative lunatic, essentially kick-started two programmes and, on Being The Elite, a third with Joey Janela.

The performance matched the production; when Moxley soaked in the crowd like oxygen, before letting out a silent but deafening ‘Motherf*cker’, he made it seem as if All Elite Wrestling was the most vital promotion in all of professional wrestling.

He also framed his new home as a profound, emotional release from the WWE asylum in a stunningly effective declaration of war.
