Another, more modern example of the WWE recognising fan interest in a particular superstar, and nailing a slow rise to the top was Daniel Bryan's ascendence in 2013/14. Having been effectively turned face by several rabid crowd reactions, the natural underdog cleanly defeated John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam...only for Randy Orton to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract and form The Authority with Triple H. Bryan was continually screwed out of subsequent title shots, finding himself against immeasurable odds time and time again. He was denied entry into the 2014 Royal Rumble, a decision which resulted in the live crowd absolutely destroying the PPV's atmosphere. Thankfully he was finally allowed to enjoy his moment in the sun a few months later, signifying his rise from a little-known darling of the independent scene to the hottest babyface in wrestling. Defining Moment: Bryan's climactic title win at WrestleMania 30, which saw him overcome Triple H in the opening match to gain entry into the main event, before defeating Royal Rumble winner Batista and WWE Champion Randy Orton in a cathartic main event.
