8. Goldberg's Undefeated Streak
Sometimes the most basic way of building a new star is the most effective. WCW decided to simply have Goldberg win, and win and win. The promotion's answer to Stone Cold made his debut in 1997 and went on an unbelievable tear, amassing 160 wins en route to the biggest undefeated streak in mainstream wrestling history. Although a dubious figure (given the inclusion of house shows, and a rumoured dark match defeat early in his run), the streak soon made Goldberg the most over man in the company and birthed a simple catchphrase: "Who's next?". His 79th victim was US Champion Raven, and his 112th World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan - both of whom fell to the lethal Spear/Jackhammer combo. It was a sad day when Goldberg's run came to an end, the champ falling prey to a cattle prod at Starrcade 1998, allowing NWO original Kevin Nash to finally defeat him. Needless to say, it was a very unpopular decision. Defining Moment: Goldberg vs 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan at the Georgia Dome. In front of a rabid crowd, the unstoppable fan favourite nails the NWO leader with a Spear and thunderous Jackhammer to win his first ever WCW Championship.
