10 Best Wrestling Tag Team Matches Ever

2. Kenta Kobashi & Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Holy Demon Army (AJPW Super Power Series - 9 Jun 1995)

The King's Road tag format was perfected when All Japan Pro Wrestling's Four Pillars met on what would become a special night in June 1995, conjuring the kind of aura that can't be recreated in an overcrowded creative meeting. It takes stomach to watch it in 2020, knowing what happened to Misawa, but no other style has ever generated such edge-of-control drama. You need to see this otherworld classic - particularly if you like your fake sport to feel like a real one.

You'll struggle to find a better babyface performance than Kobashi's here. The GOAT of fighting spirit was incredible against these two malevolent Demons (at one point, Kawada booted Misawa right in his broken orbital bone then shrugged it off like it was nothing), going as far as sacrificing himself towards the end, draping his own body over Misawa while Kawada and Taue tried to pick his bones. A gut-wrenching moment in a contest full of them.

Kobashi's heroism fed directly into one of the most memorable finishes of all time. We shan't spoil its magic here, but it played out like a pro-wrestling tragedy after 45 minutes of ineffable greatness. Rarely has the artform felt so legitimate.
