10 Best Wrestling Tag Team Matches Ever

3. Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle Vs. Edge & Rey Mysterio (WWE No Mercy 2002)

Kurt Angle Edge No Mercy 2002
WWE

Witness one of Rey Mysterio's greatest WWE performances in this phenomenal battle at the end of Stephanie McMahon's WWE Tag Team Title tournament.

Mysterio was A+ here. A bout that began with Kurt Angle refusing to take the lucha legend seriously (to the point that he literally threw Mysterio at Edge and demanded the bigger man tag in) saw Rey make his bullying opponents treat him with respect, though he absorbed much of the heat - as he should have. Angle and Benoit were two ruthless, domineering ring generals who looked like monstrous hosses when controlling the smaller man.

Rewatching this match in 2020, it feels like a modern indie-style bout performed by three of the most complete performers to ever step foot in a WWE ring. The bombs are big and the nearfalls dramatic, but everything is swift, precise, and full of snap. The added stipulation that former rivals Benoit and Angle would be suspended for a year without pay if they came to blows gave it extra stakes, helping elevate the clash far beyond exhibitionary fare.

Tremendous work, outstanding psychology, a red-hot building, and four of the greatest to ever do it? That's a recipe for tag team greatness.
