TJP's heel turn earlier on in 2017 was desperately needed as he never seemed to click as a babyface. He initially turned during his feud with Austin Aries in the spring, but his former friend Rich Swann still saw the good in him and attempted to revert him back to being the babyface he once was.

This led to a series of friendly one-on-one encounters between the two men, starting on the July 4th edition of 205 Live. The commentator team did a splendid job of informing the audience of the rich history between Swann and TJP, enhancing the excellent action going on in the ring. TJP largely resisted cheating to beat Swann, and in the end, that was what cost him the victory.

The SmackDown Live crowds who stick around for 205 Live afterward are typically quiet for the taping, but the fans in attendance that night in Phoenix created an electric atmosphere for it. Swann and TJP went on to have two more matches against each other, but this was the best of the bunch.
