10 Best WWE Championship Reigns Of The 1990s

2. Bret Hart (March-November 1994)

As it turns out, one way to guarantee that you have good wrestling in your promotion is to put the world championship on the best wrestler. Who knew?

Bret "The Hitman" Hart captured his second WWE Championship when he beat Yokozuna at WrestleMania X - and he would go on to hold the winged eagle design for 248 days.

Across those many months, he put on great matches everywhere he went, be it on pay-per-view, Raw, or at some random live event in the middle of nowhere. His opponents ranged from giants like Diesel to tiddlers like The 1-2-3 Kid, but his best foe was the one he was genetically identical to.

Owen Hart gave his big brother his best challenge during his period on top, most notably at SummerSlam 1994, where the pair clashed in an all-time great steel cage match. You could argue that Owen should have been the one to dethrone The Hitman, but WWE went for 905-year-old Bob Backlund instead, who beat Bret in bizarre circumstances at Survivor Series.

Still, if it's a workhorse title reign you're looking for, then look no further than this insane run from The Excellence of Execution.
