10 Best WWE Championship Reigns Of The 2000s
7. The Rock (June-October 2000)
The WWE Championship was having a moment in 2000.
It changed hands four times in the first half of the year, before finally ending up around the waist of a certain Final Boss, where it would enjoy a much longer stay.
The Rock captured the belt at King of the Ring in very peculiar fashion, pinning Vince McMahon to win the title from Triple H in a convoluted six-man tag. Things would get better for him at the following month's Fully Loaded, where he beat Chris Benoit, before he found himself as the fourth wheel in a soap opera-style love triangle.
Rocky and his title ended up in the orbit of Trips and Kurt Angle's war for the affections of Stephanie McMahon, leading to a fantastically overblown main event at SummerSlam. The champion would defend the title one more time at Unforgiven, before finally dropping it at No Mercy.
In an era where it was bouncing around like a rubber ball, Rock brought serious stability to the championship and was involved in some of the best storylines of the entire year. He wasn't always the focal point, but it still counts.
