It's become tradition in recent years that every time Brock Lesnar's contract is nearing its end, reports begin to surface about how the UFC would love to have their former heavyweight champ back in the Octagon.

Obviously, this is completely coincidental, but it does bring into sharp focus just how worried WWE, and the wrestling business as a whole, is about losing the Beast Incarnate, a performer the like of which we will probably never see again (unless he allows his DNA to be cloned).

We already know how sorely fans will miss him because of the dark period that was 2004 to 2012, during which Lesnar - thanks to his ambition to conquer the worlds of NFL and MMA - didn't step foot in a WWE ring. Since he was the man who pretty much defined the early Ruthless Aggression Era, his absence was hugely felt.

Luckily, Vince McMahon dug deep into his pockets to bring his Next Big Thing back to Monday Night Raw in 2012, since which time he has remained wedded to the main event in a way that would make even Evolution-era Triple H blush. Seriously, can you even imagine a WrestleMania without Lesnar in one of the marquee matches?
