9. Maryse
A Diva Search competitor in 2007, Maryse Ouelett at first appeared to be another useless blonde the company signed to be part of its ever-growing roster of women. When the company began airing vignettes announcing her character's debut, there was little to be excited about. Sure, she was insanely hot and welcoming fans back to the show while wearing as little lingerie as possible was a great way to get noticed, but there were plenty of women available that could have done the same thing and still delivered from an in-ring standpoint. But a funny thing happened upon her arrival. She could actually work. More importantly, she had personality between the ropes. She could elicit a reaction with a single flip of the hair and was easily unlikable. That she progressed and evolved with every passing match only further endeared her to critics. Working with and against Michelle McCool, Maria, Natalya and Victoria helped Maryse develop into a fine worker and at one point, it appeared as though she could be the type of performer that Vince McMahon and his crack writing staff could build an entire division around. Unfortunately, a dislocated knee cap halted her momentum tremendously and made for a much more apprehensive performer when the platinum blonde French-Canadian finally returned to the squared circle.
