10 Best WWE Extreme Rules Matches Ever

2. Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan (2012)

The match everybody wanted to see between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 28 just didn't happen. Sheamus flattened Bryan in 18 seconds, but in the long-term it would actually end up working in Bryan's favour. It was a catalyst in his inevitable babyface turn, and we all know how that's turned out. A return match from 'Mania for the World Heavyweight Championship took place at Extreme Rules, in a 2-out-of-3 falls match. This was the wrestling clinic we all wanted in the first place. Chicago fans are rather vocal, and they got right behind Bryan on the night, despite the fact he came in as the heel. The first two falls were supremely clever from a tactical standpoint. It's something that usually seems so absent in modern day WWE, but Bryan is amongst the smartest on the roster. Bryan controlled the pace of the match and strategically weakened the shoulder of the Irishman, in order to set him up for the 'YES' lock. Bryan got himself disqualified for the first fall. He ignored a count from the referee following repeated kicks to the shoulder, but soon capitalised to equal up the match with his finishing move just seconds after the restart. The final fall came as as a more back-and-forth affair, though Sheamus eventually retained his title with a Brogue Kick. Top class stuff.
