Every great heel needs a face to play off of and that's Edge's feud with John Cena worked so well. As we all know, Cena got booed a lot of times in his career too, but when he feuded with Edge he was going up against a natural heel that was able to bring out the best in Cena. The rivalry began in early 2006 when Edge cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on Cena (the first person to win & cash in MITB) early in the year to become the WWE Champion. It was the biggest moment of Edge's career at that point. It might still be the biggest moment because it really put him on the map. Cena's present certainly helped. They went on to have several big matches that year after Edge cost Cena the WWE Title against Rob Van Dam at ECW One Night Stand 2006 (a great moment) and then they headlined SummerSlam soon after that. Their best match was the following match at Unforgiven 2006 in Edge's hometown of Toronto (close enough anyway) where Cena won in a TLC match. It was such a violent matchup with the crowd strongly against Cena, but it was one of the best performances of his career. He really earned everybody's respect that night. Edge took the FU (Attitude Adjustment) off a ladder through stacked tables in the ring as Cena got his WWE Title back. There were other matches too, but it was the rivalry in 2006 that really benefited and elevated both guys.
