10 Best WWE Gimmicks Of 2014

9. Tyson Kidd - The Egotistical Husband

2014 was a year of resurgence for Tyson Kidd, who spent much of the years prior on the shelf due to injury and creative not having anything for him after the Hart Dynasty split and Harry €œDH€ Smith left the company. He was never viewed as the most charismatic performer, and was used more as a workhorse for good TV matches. There are two WWE programs heavily responsible for his comeback in 2014: Total Divas and NXT. Not only did those shows get him some much needed exposure and time to show his skills and personality to an audience, but they also helped him cultivate his current gimmick, which is Egomaniacal Husband of Wrestling Royalty. A lot of the egomaniacal/bad husband stuff came from Total Divas, where it shows that his marriage to Natalya is less than ideal. The portrayal on that show contributes at least in part to the loud €œNattie€™s Husband€ chants he hears when he€™s competing on NXT. Competing on NXT also added to his character€™s bitterness and absolute obsession with finding his own spotlight, as he believed he was better than being on NXT. The character mooches off his wife€™s famous family name, resents the fact that she€™s part of said famous family. He often uses his wife as a human shield to gain an upper hand in his own matches and seems more concerned with posting pics on Twitter and Instagram when he accompanies her to the ring for her bouts, only to hog the spotlight when she wins. The character works because it€™s easy to understand and incorporates nuggets of €œreality€ which is very important during the Reality Era. The next step is for Tyson to get more promo time and more matches on Raw. Have him bring up the famous Hart family as if he€™s the one related to them only to have Michael Cole constantly remind the audience that he married into the famous family, and isn't a product on their gene pool.
