10 Best WWE Gimmicks Vince McMahon Had Nothing To Do With

7. The New Day

Vince McMahon's original vision for The New Day boys was that they'd be inspiring gospel singers spreading positivity across the land. Internally, the already tight-knit trio of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E knew it'd be a disaster. In interviews since, they've all said fans were right to turn against such sugary, insincere happiness.

After that, McMahon let go of some control of the gimmick's direction and let Kofi, Woods and E do their thing. It's no accident that New Day's fortunes turned around when they embraced the hate, became too entertaining to deny and slyly turned babyface all over again by way of selling cereal, throwing pancakes and wearing penis-like "unicorn horns".

New Day are fun, and people are still on board with the group in 2019. That, and Kofi's spin-off rise to WWE Title glory, has more to do with their determination, friendship and knowledge of the modern audience than Vince's. Don't forget, he wanted them to be three concurrent babyface versions of Al Sharpton.

Imagine it.
