10 Best WWE Gimmicks Vince McMahon Had Nothing To Do With
5. Brian Pillman's 'Loose Cannon'
Brian Pillman was wrestling's premier hoodwink artist. In the mid-90s, he convinced Eric Bischoff to legitimately release him from contract to sell his 'Loose Cannon' guise, before enjoying a brief run in ECW and promptly signing with the WWF. Game, set, match. Pillman's super-genius exploits are definitely some of the wackiest ever.
Just like Bischoff and Heyman before him, Vince McMahon went along for the ride.
He didn't invent the 'Loose Cannon', and he barely attempted to tamper with Pillman's eccentric on screen personality at all. No, he didn't threaten to take his penis out and pee all over the place like he did in ECW, but Pillman was still a more outrageously provocative character in the WWF than most around him at the time. Watch any of his riotous appearances as a guest commentator for proof of that.
Inevitably, the WWF failed to follow up on Pillman's early promise. In fairness to them, the man was going through serious personal problems at the time. He sadly passed away in late-'97, so we never got to see if the gimmick's potential would be fulfilled. Nevertheless, the 'Loose Cannon' remains one of the most curious, self-made gimmicks in industry history.
