Although The Ultimate Warrior won both his first and second Intercontinental Championships in the late 80s, his success as Intercontinental Champion at the turn of the decade not only catapulted Warrior to the main event of WrestleMania but it also put the IC title on a whole other level that had never been seen before.

Warrior ran with the Intercontinental Championship for much of '88 and '89, and his popularity soared by the time 1990 came around. So much so that, in an epic clash of titans, the Intercontinental Championship was defended against the World Wrestling Federation Championship at the first ever international WrestleMania.

And much to the surprise of fans the world over, the Intercontinental Champion won!

Ultimate Warrior became the first man to defeat the WWE's flagship performer, Hulk Hogan, clean in the middle of the ring at the culmination of WrestleMania VI.

This would do wonders for the Intercontinental title as an argument could now be made that the 'secondary' championship was on par with the WWE Championship.

Although this reign didn't take up too many calendar days in the 90s, the shine given to the short but memorable few months that Warrior represented the title in 1990 would last for years.
