Legacy had been hounding Triple H and preventing him from toppling Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. In a nice bit of storytelling, Triple H coaxed an absent Shawn Michaels out of semi-retirement (where he was 'working' as a corporate chef) to even the odds against the still-unproven duo of Rhodes and Dibiase at the landmark summertime event. Instead of making it a relative squash, Legacy got to hold their own.
The two heels worked it a shade more conniving and cunning, playing the divide-and-conquer game while trying to keep the two main eventers from ganging up effectively. Rhodes took the fall from Michaels in the end, but the match elevated the stock of the younger performers, showing that they could hold their own under brighter lights.
