He may be transitioning into a part-time schedule, but John Cena remains one of WWE’s most reliable big match wrestlers. His ability to deliver in a big spot marks him as one of his generation’s greatest performers, regardless of any complaints over his character and push, and his third bout with AJ Styles shows that he’s still as good as ever.

It helps that he was in there with the consensus best wrestler in the company, of course. Styles has regularly churned-out Match Of The Year-calibre bouts almost from the moment he walked into WWE in 2016, and went in 2-0 against Cena in pay-per-view bouts. This set-up the perfect story of Cena becoming increasingly fed-up of his inability to beat AJ, and amplifying his aggression throughout the match, before eventually putting ‘The Phenomenal One’ away.

The win saw Cena equal Ric Flair’s record as a 16-time World Champion, and the conclusion created a great sense of drama, with both men kicking out of each other’s biggest moves. They left nothing on the table after 25 minutes of non-stop action, demonstrating their incredible chemistry in a way that is still to be matched in 2017.
