Regardless of whether you prefer Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker’s first or second epic WrestleMania bouts, they’re both stone cold classics. There’s very little separating the two, but while HBK and ‘Taker faced an uphill battle to improve on the quality of the previous match when they met at WrestleMania XXVI, they certainly tried.

The contest pitted Undertaker’s long-standing Streak against Shawn’s 20+ year career, and it delivered on every level. Desperate to keep his wrestling dream alive, HBK relentlessly targeted ‘The Deadman’s’ leg throughout the bout, but ‘Taker showed unfathomable resilience, and as Shawn’s frustration grew, he slipped into survival mode.

It became a finisher fest towards the end, and while this isn’t every fan’s cup of tea, it worked in this scenario. Shawn’s third Sweet Chin Music had everyone in the building think it was over, and the place became unglued as ‘Taker threw his shoulder up. A merciful ‘Taker fought his way back, then urged the obliterated Michaels to stay down, but Shawn used ‘Taker to pull himself to his feet, then slap his opponent across the cheek.

The result was a leaping Tombstone Piledriver, and the end of Michaels’ career. HBK’s run finished on a high after one of his greatest performances, and there aren’t many others who can stay that.
