10 Best WWE Matches That Happened Outside America
2. Finn Balor v Kevin Owens - Japan
The power of NXT grew so much that not only could the brand put on shows in the UK, but also have feature matches in Japan. Despite the card being centred around Brock Lesnar, it was two NXT stalwarts - one of whom was very well known in Japan prior to WWE - who put on the match of the night as Finn Balor took on Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship.
Balor, coming into this as a challenger, was hugely over with the Japanese crowd.
Well known in the country for his association with Bullet Club in New Japan, Balor was the fan favourite as the cocky, evil Owens looked to take his NXT Title further into his newly minted main roster feud with John Cena. KO mocked the leader of the Cenation throughout the match, stealing some of Cena’s trademark offence and despite resisting much of Balor’s attack - including kicking out of the Coup De Grace - KO fell to the Demon in what was another one of NXT’s best matches during a time when the black and gold brand were churning them out weekly. One of the best non-Takeover main events in NXT history.
