10 Best WWE Matches That Happened Outside America
1. Bret Hart v Steve Austin - South Africa
What was once a much talked about, yet never seen encounter between two of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots - this match gained a new lease of life when fans could watch it on the WWE Network and not have to watch grainy YouTube footage.
Held at the Sun City Superbowl in South Africa as part of the Sun City Showdown, Bret Hart and Steve Austin tore it up in one of their best encounters.
Coming into the match, Bret Hart was in the midst of a sabbatical after losing the WWF Championship to Shawn Michaels in the 60 minute Iron Man match at WrestleMania XI and Austin was beginning his ascent to the top after winning King Of The Ring, cementing his status as a top heel and also beginning to call out Hart on WWF television.
Whereas their first major US clash would happen at Survivor Series that year, this match was one that went under the radar due to it not being on US television. With Jim Ross and Owen Hart on commentary, Austin and Bret put on a technical masterclass that was a brilliant precursor to what was to come on pay-per-view. Matches ending in roll-ups were rare, but it happened here and the crowd lapped up every minute of these two elite superstars going at it. A marker was laid down ahead of Survivor Series and their classic WrestleMania 13 submission match.
