10 Best WWE Moments That Reignited Your Passion For Wrestling
8. 2011 - CM Punk's Pipebomb
This is the moment that probably everybody thought of when they read the title of this article. This is the moment that changed everything. This was the first axe to the fourth wall that is now in ruins. We know that the summer of Punk was ruined by Triple H. We know that the best thing about Kevin Nash's return was the text message that it evoked from Punk's sister, but none of that takes away from this moment and the reaction that it illicited.
Punk, who's contract was about to expire, got on a live microphone and cut a scathing narrative on the WWE status quo. Stuff that the fans had been saying for years, but had never seen even acknowledged on television. He even dropped the names of other wrestling companies, which was unheard of at the time!
This got the internet talking like nothing ever had before. Was it a work? Was it a shoot? That's still debated in some corners today (who obviously haven't seen the Best In The World documentary, but still).
The pipebomb changed the game and WWE often uses these shoot style promos now when they want to get people talking (The Miz's recent promo on Daniel Bryan comes to mind) but back then, this never happened and it had us eating out of the palm of WWE's hand all the way past the Money In The Bank pay-per-view, when Punk took the title from Cena and ran out of the arena.
