10 Best WWE No Mercy Matches Ever (According To Dave Meltzer)
9. The Rock Vs. Kurt Angle - No Mercy 2000 (****1/4)
A typically overbooked Attitude Era PPV main event, this bout took place soon after the Kurt Angle/Triple H/Stephanie McMahon love triangle storyline, that was originally intended to conclude with 'The Olympic Hero' overcoming 'The Cerebral Assassin,' and Steph switching allegiances in the aftermath.
The company changed their minds, and McMahon ultimately stayed with her husband, but she was by Kurt's side as he challenged for The Rock's WWE Championship. Although a step or two behind their previous clash at No Way Out, it was a strong bout between a master showman and one of the most well-rounded wrestlers in WWE history, but the interferences muddied the conclusion.
Concerned for his wife's safety, Triple H ran down and attacked both Angle and The Rock, before Rikishi (fresh off Steve Austin's attempt at murdering him earlier in the evening) joined the party. Kurt capitalised on the confusion, giving Rikishi an Angle Slam after he'd accidentally kicked The Rock, before delivering the same move to his opponent, securing the 1, 2, 3.
The match is very much a product of its era, and your mileage will vary depending on your tolerance for messy finishes, but Rock and Angle's outstanding chemistry makes it worthwhile.
