A wildly uneven PPV, No Mercy 2007 is best remembered for the WWE Championship's unrepentant hot-shotting. It started with Vince McMahon awarding Randy Orton the gold after John Cena had been forced to vacate the belt, but 'The Viper' dropped it just minutes later. Triple H, his first challenger, defeated Orton in the night's opening match, capping one of the shortest reigns in history.

Hunter was then forced to defend against Umaga, whom he defeated in a brief, brutal sprint, before being booked in a Last Man Standing match with Orton in the night's main event. It was Triple H's third bout, but he and Randy worked for well over 20 minutes, producing the best singles match of a long-term rivalry that typically under-delivered in the ring.

Regardless, the ****1/4 rating feels generous ten years later. There were a couple of cool RKO spots, but Orton's lengthy heat segment was dull, and Triple H's comebacks did little to ignite the crowd's interest. Randy eventually took advantage of his opponent's weakened state to seal the victory and regain his title, embarking upon a 203-day reign that helped compensate for No Mercy 2007's quickfire changes.
