A great wrestling match with a frustrating outcome, Jeff Hardy's No Mercy 2008 bout with Triple H stands as one of the best singles contests of his career.

'The Game's WWE Championship was on the line, and while pulling the trigger at No Mercy would've been the perfect springboard for Jeff's burgeoning main event career, it wasn't to be. WWE went with the safe option and had Triple H go over, and Hardy was forced to wait until Armageddon before taking the belt, pinning Edge in a Triple Threat bout also including Hunter.

The action preceding this disappointing conclusion was great, though. The duo always worked well together, and Jeff was desperate to impress on his big night, showing a characteristic disregard for his own well-being with a reckless mid-match plancha. The crowd were 100% behind him too, creating a red-hot atmosphere inside the building, particularly for the closing stages.

It wasn't enough. Jeff looked to be on the verge of victory after finally nailing 'The Game' with a Swanton Bomb, but Triple H rolled him into a crucifix pin before the referee's hand could hit the mat for a third time. A heartbreaking turn of events, but an elite performance from both men.
